Mattie B Gibson

Mattie Bell Gibson was on born on August 16, 1937 in Albany, Ga to the late Rushie and Andrew Green. She moved to Newark, NJ in the late 70's where she became well known for her gentle, loving, and caring spirit. Mattie was a member at New Light Baptist Church in Newark, NJ where she served as a member of the deaconess board and was also an usher. Mattie loved God and was always committed to her church. Mattie was also known for her nurturing ways. She was a babysitter for several children of the community and many family members. Mattie was known to many who loved her as Mommy, NaNa, and Ma.

She was a sweet, loving, patient, hardworking, and God fearing woman who enjoyed spending time with her family. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook everyday and shared a special bond with her son-in-law Carey Wilson; they were known as Bonnie and Clyde. Mattie was truly a woman of everyone's heart. On April 19, 2024 at the age of 86 years old Mattie Gibson was called home to the Lord while resting peacefully and surrounded by so much love.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents Rushie and Andrew Green. Her husbands Frank Tenner Jr and Junior Mac Gibson.

Her siblings Robert, John, Doris, Wesley, Zeb, and Lola Mae.

Her two children Willie Junior and Nate. Her stepdaughter Gayle. Also her grandson Andrew Stevenson and great-granddaughter Malon Eley.

She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children Maggie, Mattie, Frederick, Edward, Emanuel, Andrew, and John. Her son-in-law Carey. Her two daughter-in-laws Debbie and Shirley.

Her Step-children Lizzie and Rufus. Her 23 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loves ones.
